Good Governance in Civil Society: We Presented Our First Graduates

As a result of the surveys and workshops we conducted with the participation of civil society representatives within the scope of the Participatory Democracy Project in 2016, we came to the conclusion that one of the most important needs of civil society is trained human resources.

In order to respond to the need in this direction, we planned to open a training program. We have completed the curriculum work of our “Good Governance Certificate Program in Civil Society” with the opinion of the International Hertie School of Governance and Baruch College. With our program, which targets civil society managers, non-governmental executive candidates, activists and new university graduates who aim to make a career in civil society, our program aims to raise awareness of good governance practices, to gain a holistic and strategic perspective, to inform about the philosophy of integrated thinking, to develop social capital creation skills, to develop sustainable financial resources. We aimed to create and inform about legal obligations.

Our training program was delivered by academics, civil society leaders and private sector activists. Our trainers transfer theoretical and practical knowledge within the framework of legal regulations, a reinforcing method that includes applied and case studies. The trainings were supported by individual and group work.

Our training program consisting of 22 lessons and 66 hours is in Istanbul in 2017 with the support of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES); It was opened in Adana with the cooperation of Adana City Council. Our training platform, where our participants can access training content (presentations, videos, reading lists, additional resources, etc.) and complete some of the courses as exams, has been put into use. We uploaded all educational content to the platform and conveyed it to our students of the Good Governance Program in Civil Society. In this sense, we created a sustainable education platform with distance education service. In the future, we aim to make all of our training programs accessible and trackable on the Internet.

At the Graduation Ceremonies we organized at the end of our program, in which a total of 150 people participated, we presented 58 people with 'Certificates of Expertise' and 92 people with participation certificates. We aim to empower more people by opening our Certificate Program in different cities in 2018.
