Leading companies align executive incentive mechanisms with strategic sustainability goals to ensure that top management prioritizes sustainability and focuses on key issues. As we enter a period where we assess how we can most effectively integrate sustainability into our ways of doing business, it becomes critical to clearly define the roles of boards of directors and top executives who will lead in this area. To ensure the widespread adoption of sustainability practices in decision-making processes, boards must hold company management explicitly accountable for the company’s sustainability impact.
