Global thought leaders of good governance are joining the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Argüden Governance Academy. First of the “A Decade on the Journey towards Governance Excellence” Seminars organized by the Academy was hosted by TÜSİAD on February 14th, with the theme “Board of Directors and Artificial Intelligence”.

Senior executives from the leading companies of Türkiye attended the Seminar. The keynote speaker was Prof. David R. Beatty, Advisory Board Member of Argüden Governance Academy. The Academy will continue this series of Seminars throughout 2024 as video webinars in collaboration with Harvard Business Review Türkiye. The speakers include such governance leaders as Mervyn E. King, Sir Mark Moody Stuart, and Paul Polman.
The opening speeches of the physical event hosted by TÜSİAD were delivered by Orhan Turan, Chairman of the Board of TÜSIAD, and Dr. Yılmaz Argüden, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Argüden Governance Academy.
Orhan Turan, who was re-elected as the president of TÜSİAD for the 2024-2025 term, refreshing the trust, pointed out in his speech that the technological transformation triggered by artificial intelligence is a strategic agenda for Turkish industries and senior managers of companies. He expressed his appreciation to Argüden Governance Academy for “Artificial Inteligence and Board of Directors” Meeting which is very timely and useful in the development of Türkiye.
In his opening speech, Dr. Argüden stated that “Argüden Governance Academy was founded 10 years ago with the goal of ‘improving trust in institutions through good governance’. The pioneering research and education programs developed by the Academy to improve quality of life and build a sustainable future are recognized by global institutions such as UN, G20, OECD, Council of Europe, and IFRS. The Academy’s work targets public, private, and civil society organizations, as well as children and youth leaders to help build a culture of trust.”
After the opening speeches, Prof. David R. Beatty called Artificial Intelligence as an upcoming tsunami. He said that to cope with this tsunami, it must become a strategic priority for boards of directors and top management. Beatty also shared companies’ experiences that are rapidly reshaping their industries by adopting artificial intelligence to the way of doing their business.
Prof. Beatty, who contributed to the “Good Corporate Governance Certificate Program” conducted by Argüden Governance Academy in collaboration with IFC for senior executives, expressed his pleasure to see many executives who graduated from that program in 2018, again at this seminar. Prof. David R. Beatty is a recipient of the 'Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' award and the 'Lifetime Achievement' Award from the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN). He has served on the Boards of over 35 companies.
