Governance plays a fundamental role not only in the sustainable and trustworthy management of companies, but also of public institutions, civil society organizations, and international organizations. Good governance builds trust through decision-making processes grounded in transparency, accountability, and a long-term perspective, while also enabling institutions to fulfill their social and environmental responsibilities.
In this episode of Talks with Global Governance Leaders, moderated by Gizem Argüden Oskay, Board Member of the Argüden Governance Academy, we explore different dimensions of corporate governance with Dr. Yılmaz Argüden, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Argüden Governance Academy. Our conversation focuses on the core principles of good governance, their applicability across different sectors, and their impact on organizations’ sustainability journeys. Drawing on his leadership experience with international institutions such as the World Bank, the UN Global Compact, and the OECD, Dr. Argüden shares his insights on the importance of good governance and how it can be put into practice across different types of organizations.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the Argüden Governance Academy, we also reflect on the Academy’s flagship projects and their impact in advancing good governance across different age groups and institutions. Through research initiatives such as the Sustainability Governance Scorecard© and the Municipality Governance Scorecard©, which assess governance with a focus on creating impact, the Academy aims to make good practices more visible and enable institutions to learn from one another and accelerate change.
The integrated thinking and integrated reporting approach adopted by the Academy since its establishment also offers guidance for future leaders and provides institutions with a strategic perspective for preparing for the future.
