Participatory Democracy: Empowering NGOs
We prepared the study, conducted in collaboration between TEPAV (The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Türkiye) and TESEV (The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation), with the support of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, to support the Civil Society Framework Law Draft, which aims to enhance civil society. The study was carried out in cooperation with our governance expert, Fikret Toksöz.
In the first section of the study, we conducted a current situation analysis based on an extensive literature review. In the second section, we evaluated the policy recommendations for a framework law, which were derived from the results of our survey conducted to promote civil society, along with the examination of various global practices.
As part of the project, we surveyed 94 civil society organizations from 19 different cities in Türkiye, asking about their current issues and improvement suggestions. We shared the key findings with representatives of NGOs in workshops held in Adana, Ankara, and Istanbul, and obtained their feedback. We compiled the recommendations and survey results, enriched with the data obtained from the participatory workshops, in the publication titled "Participatory Democracy: Recommendations for Strengthening NGOs," which we shared with all stakeholders involved in the topic.
