Sir Mark Moody-Stuart

Advisory Board Member

Sir Mark Moody-Stuart is Chairman of the Global Compact Foundation, and a director in HSBC Holdings, Accenture and Saudi Aramco. Born in Antigua, Sir Mark received his doctorate in geology in 1966 at Cambridge University and worked for Royal Dutch/Shell starting as an exploration geologist, living in Holland, Spain, Oman, Brunei, Australia, Nigeria, Turkiye, Malaysia, and the UK. He was Chairman of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies from 1998 to 2001, having worked for Shell since 1966.

Sir Mark has co-chaired the G-8 Task Force on Renewable Energy and also Chaired Business Action for Sustainable Development, a joint initiative of the International Chamber of Commerce and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in the run up to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, 2002. He was on the board of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (2003-2011) and of the Global Reporting Initiative (2001-2007) and a Governor of Nuffield Hospitals (2001-2008). He was a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Council for the Global Compact (2001 -2004) and was appointed to the UN Global Compact Board and as Chairman of the Global Compact Foundation in 2006.

He was educated at Shrewsbury School and at St. John's College, Cambridge, where he obtained a Ph.D. on a thesis on the Devonian sediments of Spitsbergen. He became a Fellow of this College in 2001.
